Databaser og webprogrammering eller datamining?

Jeg er i tvivl om hvad jeg skal vælge af ovenstående, så jeg kunne godt tænke mig at høre lidt mere om forskellene ift. at vælge webprogrammering eller datamining, og høre jeres anbefalinger/erfaringer?

Ud over at sidstnævnte skulle være mere matematisk (statistik?), har jeg fået det indtryk, at det måske også er et mere tidskrævende fag, hvor der måske stilles højere krav? Er det korrekt, og gælder det også eksamen?

Min baggrund: Jeg har kodet flere database-hjemmesider i PHP før, og kender SQL nogenlunde vil jeg mene. Til gengæld er jeg ikke synderligt god til matematik, men jeg klarede da DiMS.

Where can I get it?
Of course, I can go to the library (but it's already borrowed) or to the book shop in Biocenter (it's expensive).

How shall photo galleries be presented at Dikutal?

We in Dikutal are on the lookout for a better way presenting and organizing our galleries. Currently we use a Drupal module, which isn't very nice at presenting the images and which is even more horrible to work with if you want to upload and write comments for those images.

Two years ago i hacked together a very simple gallery for my lunch club "EggsML", it hasn't been used very much, but I find certain parts of the approach nice. A gallery is directory named with the title of the gallery, each gallery-directory contains collection of .jpegs and any other information is saved in the EXIF data of that jpeg. See the code here: https://github.com/Athas/EggsML/blob/master/jpeggs.aspeggs (.aspeggs is just a pun on .aspx, but it really is a Python file. Also, our .jpeg files are named jpeggs). The gallery generated by the above is viewable here: http://eggsml.dk/jpeggs.aspeggs

This is mostly a prototype, a lot of desirable things are missing (comments, user authentication, and upload mechanism, changing EXIF comments through the webinterface etc.)

Does there exist any good gallery web-apps that we should consider to use instead of creating our own hack?

Edit: I think we will prefer an on-premise solution. That is, we don't want to embed Flickr, Picasa og SmugMug galleries. There is always limitations on such services, and it is just nicer to use something Open Source which we can adjust as we want.

Is there a DIKU VPN and do I have access to it as a student?

What I am mostly interested in, is to get access to the eduroam network from home. I want to be able to have access to research papers without the need to be in eduroam. Is that possible?

OT Meta: I think it's a bit strange that filling out the "tags" field is required, when one can't add new tags because one's reputation isn't high enough. That just encourages choosing random tags that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. (though I managed to find some that are kinda relevant) I would've chosen "student-card" and "access". Maybe a general meta-feedback question should be created? Should I create it?

How do you open a DIKU mailing list for a social group?

We need a mailing list for the DIKU bordfoldboldhold (foosball team).

Since I think we qualify as a social group, I thought a @diku.dk mailing list would be appropriate.

So, how do you go about to establish such a mailing list? Who do you write to these days of Science-IT?
