New students are awarded a registration plate upon admittance to DIKU, and they even get a lovely abc123@alumni.ku.dk-address. Is there a way for students to get a less sheeple-like address while still displaying a degree of association to KU or even DIKU?

When i started at DIKU we had emails like martindy7@stud.ku.dk, but had the option to create an alias, like dybber [at] stud.ku.dk. That address still works (I get it where I receive my alumni-mail), so it might be possible, I just can't find the setting in the UI. You could ask Koncern-IT or Science-IT as ptrf suggests.

I contacted it-service@adm.ku.dk with the following question:

Is it possible to make an alias for the alumni mail? My last name is unique on KU, so would i be possible to get grevald@alumni.ku.dk as alias?

And got this answer:

Unfortunately it is not possible for students to change their alumni email-address. Sorry.

But how did you ask? You are not interested in changing it what is necessary is just the ability to create an alias for that account. I for instance have an alias "dybber@stud.ku.dk" which I created back in the days, and that still works.

Yes, good point. I updated the answer to be less ambiguous. Though, it is still possible that this particular employee simply do not know of the possibility create an alias.

According to the guide for e-mails and calendars it should by now be possible to get an alias:

During 2010, it will also be possible to create an alias for your email address, to make it easier to remember.

However, there is no information on how to actually acquire this alias. Also, this was actually first announced in a mail with the subject "Allersidste mail? / Last email ever?" on June 29th, 2010:

During the summer you will be able to choose a so-called alias for your email address. You could for example call yourself bob@alumni.ku.dk, but please be aware that aliases will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis. Furthermore, certain words will not be made available for use, for instance "rector", etc.

You may want to write it-service@adm.ku.dk and ask further questions.
