I heard that DIKU teams have done pretty well at CTFs like Prosa CTF.

What is such a CTF all about, and how do I participate?

At a CTF (capture the flag) competition, each team usually has a server they are reponsible for. The goal is then to keep your own server secure (defense) and exploiting security holes in the other teams' servers (attack). The exact scoring mechanism varies depending on the competition, but usually you steal flags planted on servers through security holes and submit them to a centralized flag server. Some competitions also have challenges that may give points separate from the CTF part. They may be things like reverse engineering, cryptography, steganography and other security related subjects.

If you wish to participate with pwnies, DIKU's student hacker group, you should subscribe to the mailing list pwnies@diku.dk so you can be informed about participation in new CTFs.
