Here are a few criteria to consider when choosing a supervisor:

Fields of interest

You first and foremost need to find a supervisor whose fields of interest overlap with yours. If you have a project idea, ask around to see who is willing to supervise on that idea. If you don't have an idea, try to give them an idea of your likes (courses or topics such as "algorithmics" tend to give a good gist of what you're looking for) and ask them if they have any projects available suiting that.

Degree of supervision

The degree of supervision provided depends a lot on the supervisor chosen. Some supervisors like to let you run the project entirely by yourself, while some prefer to keep you on a tighter leash. You can often find out this information about a given supervisor by asking around in the Canteen.

Personality

You'll be working with your supervisor on a regular basis for half a year, so it's of course also important to pick a supervisor you can get along well with.

Other students' experiences

It's often valuable to ask other students that've tried a supervisor about their experiences. They have tried it themselves, and can therefore give you a good idea about what you can expect.
